Some of the things we've done

Our WorkHere are a few examples of projects we’ve been working on recently.

They range from information about deer in the New Forest to a Yamaha technical manual that would break your foot if you dropped it (don’t ask us how we know that). Get in touch if you like what you see (or if you don’t – tell us why).

INVESTOR REPORT

Freeman Christie has worked with Babcock & Brown since 2004, when we produced the marketing material for their first commercial property retail investment fund.

Since then we have worked on several fund launches as well as developing a range of communications material for existing clients. We have developed the design element of B&B’s material so that it makes products and messages simple, quick and easy to understand.

BELSTAFF MARKETING AND ADVERTISING FOR THE MOTORCYCLE INDUSTRY

Belstaff is a great brief.

It’s a British clothing brand for motorcyclists that’s been taken over by an Italian fashion house. We’ve been responsible for the entire PR, marketing and advertising re-launch of the brand in the UK. That’s meant photo shoots, press ads, catalogues, consumer and trade PR.

It’s also meant getting a supply of ads to the various motorcycle magazines each month. So if you see a Belstaff ad - it’s one of ours.

DIGITAL VISION: MARKETING AND DESIGN AND BRAND DEVELOPMENT

Imagine. A new client briefs you on a range of technical sales literature they need for an international conference in Las Vegas in, er, five weeks. What do you do?

We suggested changing the whole range of literature to simplify it, then redesigned their branding to better reflect the creative business they worked in. Then we started writing, designing and briefing printers. The project went to schedule and to budget, and now we need to print more brochures...

A big thank you to Red Bull, The Bilash Indian Takeaway and DV for giving us the job in the first place.

ENVIRONMENT AGENCY: CONSULTANCY AND DESIGN WORK FOR EUROPEAN WATER DIRECTIVE

Freeman Christie was initially approached by The Environment Agency to discuss ways of communicating new European water management legislation.

The Environment Agency needed to communicate the ideas behind a range of new directives visually, and wanted advice. In fact, FC was appointed to the national steering board for the duration of the year-long project, consulting and giving advice to the group, the Environment Agency’s agencies and geographic specialists.

The Package on which FC consulted is now attracting interest from the Environment Agency’s partners within Europe and is entering its second phase of development.

THE FORESTRY COMMISION: NEW FOREST DEER PACK

The Forestry Commission originally asked us to produce a simple leaflet about deer in the New Forest.

But the more we looked into the brief, the more potential we thought it had - both to raise the Commission’s profile and to present visitors with an interactive, interesting piece of work that would enthuse and educate them. We then worked out a way the Commission could make a small charge for the pack and offset the design and production costs.

From everything we’ve heard, it’s been a big success.

Q8Oils GETS PR KICK

Q8Oils are one of our technical and consumer PR clients. We look after their industrial and automotive public relations work.

That means we need to be on top of the latest developments in environmental and health and safety legislation as well as what’s happening in the oil industry.

This means drafting regular press releases as well as detailed technical articles for the industry press. It also means knowing and keeping in touch with the journalists who matter.

QUBIQ: ONLINE MARKET RESEARCH BRAND AND WEB DESIGN

Qubiq On-Line are an on-line market research firm. They specialise in interactive, on-line research.

A tough brief - how do you bring that to life and make it compelling in press ads and a website? We created Eric, a 3d-modelled character who reflects Qubiq’s style and positioning.

They’re a young agency, challenging the established way of researching, so we designed and built Eric to personify them and started using him in press ads and on the web. We get Eric to set light to traditional market research clipboards and climb walls. We suspect he probably spends his days off in the pub...

ROYAL ENFIELD: ADVERTISING

We wanted to work with Royal Enfield. We think they have a stunning brand, they’ve been going longer than anyone else and they make some superb bikes. So we wrote and designed some speculative ads for them. Ads that were honest. Ads that explained that riding isn’t about getting there as fast as you can.

We thought Enfields should be sold on their character and the way they go their own way against the trend of plastic-covered crotch-rockets. We sent the ads to Enfield and asked if we could meet up. We did meet up, and now we’re proud (we mean that) to do all Royal Enfield’s press advertising. We get to ride the bikes too…

ROYAL YACHTING ASSOCIATION

RYA has an incredibly broad range of audiences, ranging from complete beginners on the water to Olympic sailors.

Writing for such a broad range of readers is a real challenge, but one we’ve hugely enjoyed. We’ve done a range of things for RYA, including a one-day training course on writing for the web. We’ve also done some writing for RYA’s website ourselves.

YAMAHA TECHNICIANS' GUILD

The first project we did for Yamaha involved producing a 500-page technical manual on stripping, repairing and rebuilding woodwind and brass instruments, Nine months later, if you’d peered through the stacks of late-night Indian takeaway cartons that littered the office, you’d have seen the new Yamaha Technicians’ Guide in all its glory.

2,000 images - taken by us. 21 detailed illustrations - drawn by us. 500 pages of copy - you get the idea. Since then we’ve worked on a raft of technical and non-tech projects for Yamaha.

YAMAHA GUIDE TO INSTRUMENTS

Yamaha asked our help with a marketing problem. Cheap, foreign instruments were beginning to present a problem - to Yamaha and to young players, who found them tough going, sometimes unreliable and hard to fix. Rather than a traditional ‘shout louder’ marketing campaign, we produced a campaign designed to educate through county music services and retailers.

At its heart was the Yamaha Guide to Brass and Woodwind, subtly branded, but explaining clearly why Yamaha instruments are a great deal better than their competitors.
